murder-victim-Sumon-MiahEditor: Another article highlighting the capacity for women, just like men, to murder.

A UK mother arranged for her 13-year-old daughter’s boyfriend to be murdered and then convinced the teenager to take the blame, a London court has heard.

Gedu Bibi, 47, is on trial for her part in the murder of Sumon Miah, 21, at her home in Walthamstow in October 2006.

Mrs Bibi allegedly recruited former lover Lilu Miah, 48, to kill the young man after he uploaded naked pictures of her daughter to the internet, according to the Daily Mail.

Sumon Miah was hit over the head with a chair leg, fracturing his skull and dying nine days later in hospital.

After the murder, Mrs Bibi allegedly convinced her daughter to tell police she had killed her boyfriend in self-defence, also allegedly persuading her then 12-year-old son to lie.

Where Good Men Don’t Count: The Dire Repercussions of Ignoring Men’s Welfare – Story Bridge Murder/Suicide

In another case reflecting the lack of support experienced by separated fathers in this country, many Australians are now questioning the wisdom of Australia’s family support services which have focussed almost exclusively on the welfare and support of women, while ignoring  the needs men, resulting in a culture of vilification that has driven some men over the edge, with dire consequences for the innocent children of separated families.

IT WAS dark outside when Danielle Lees woke and reached for her mobile phone. It had only been hours since she last saw him, but something made her dial her husband to see if everything was OK.

By the time the call connected with Jason Lees’ mobile, both he and their son, Brad, were already dead.

Danielle, a psychologist, had been staying with her parents on the Gold Coast.

Neighbours say the couple appeared to have separated, but Jason, a teacher at Brisbane’s “Churchie” and a former rugby union referee, drove to meet her for lunch on Sunday.

He left again for home in the afternoon, taking Brad with him – the two-year-old attended his school’s kindergarten.

It was about 2am when Jason strapped Brad into the car, loaded his bike and drove from their Seven Hills home in suburban Brisbane to Kangaroo Point.

Mother Murders Children – Sole Custody Takes Three More Children’s Lives

Dominic-Maher-Father-KylieFowler-Mother-Who-Committed-Murder-SuicideTHE heartbroken Hobart father of two children killed by their mother in murder-suicide in Melbourne will always be haunted by the knowledge he missed out on their final years.

Dominic Maher yesterday said he felt let down by a system that had prevented him from seeing son Matthew, 11 and daughter Melanie, 13, for three years before they died.

Police believe mother Kylie Fowler, 36, argued with the children’s older half sister Sammantha Fowler, 18, before killing all three children, setting fire to the house and committing suicide.

Mr Maher, of Chigwell, said he had spent years locked in court battles with Ms Maher, but when it consistently decided in her favour, he eventually moved to Tasmania.

He been preparing a video for his children explaining why he had lost contact with them which he planned to hand to them on their 18th birthday.

Fraud in Australia’s plan to reduce violence against women

Tags : , ,

stop-violence-against-women-but-not-menThe 2009 Australian project a ‘Time for Action: The National Council’s Plan for Australia to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, 2009-2021′, was approved for implementation by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG). The Plan, which is split into several parts, puts forth recommendations for new legislation, changes to judicial processes, requests for funding and ideas for domestic programs targeted at reducing domestic and sexual violence against women. The advisory council has some powers to implement programs through the Office of Women among other agencies, but much of what the government funded program calls for requires approval by Parliament.

The entire premise of the National Plan was underpinned by the belief in this statement:“While a small proportion of men are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, the majority of people who experience this kind of violence are women in a home, at the hands of men they know.”[27-pg1] But a quick examination of the statistics and data shows a much different picture to the rather sweeping indictment of Australian men the National Council paints.

National Geographic seeks male victim of domestic violence for documentary

Tags : , , , , ,

national-geographic-domestic-violence-against-men-documentarySarah Isaac is currently researching the topic of men as victims of domestic violence at National Geographic and is looking for a younger male victim/survivor who is happy to talk on camera.

The reason behind this being that they want to highlight that this is a global and not domestic story.

Violence against men seems to be a largely untold story and is something that they are really interested in featuring.

The show that she is researching on behalf of, Taboo, is National Geographic’s most successful show.

Taboo is a long-running prime-time documentary series on the National Geographic Channel. The series presents an in-depth analysis of human behaviours and customs from around the world. As the title suggests, the focus is on practices that some countries or cultures might consider strange.

Submissions to Family Law Amendment (Family Violence) Bill 2010 Exposure Draft released under FOI

freedom of information, attorney general, robert mclellalndSubject: Submissions by organisations to Family Law Amendment (Family Violence) Bill 2010 Exposure Draft released under FOI

Dear colleagues,

Under a Freedom of Information Act request, the Federal Attorney General’s Department has finally released the following information to the public:

1. Copies of all public submissions lodged by organisations in response to the public consultation process into the Family Law Amendment (Family Violence) Bill 2010 – Exposure Draft . 122 submissions by organisations supported the proposed amendments; 15 submissions did not support the proposed amendments; and 6 submissions did not indicate whether they supported or did not support the proposed amendments.

2. A tally of the number of submissions by personal individuals  that supported the proposed amendments (178); the number of submissions that did not support the proposed amendments (52); and the number of submissions that did not indicate whether they supported or did not support the amendments (36); for all submissions lodged in response to the public consultation process into the Family Law Amendment (Family Violence) Bill 2010 – Exposure Draft.

It is sad that in a democracy such as Australia, we have to rely on Freedom of Information legislation to obtain access to public submissions to a public federal government inquiry, especially when the inquiry’s  website clearly states, “unless submissions are marked confidential they may be published.” There is no doubt that the Labor Government is pushing through their Family Law reforms with as little transparency as possible.

When the Attorney General’s Department was originally contacted in February 2011 we were told they “didn’t know if or when the submissions would be published.” When pressed further, we were told they “might be published when the legislation goes through parliament.” This clearly hasn’t happened. The FOI request was made on 18th February 2011, and the documents were finally received on 3rd June 2011 (FOI legislation requires that information be provided within one month, or two months when sensitive information is involved). It has taken a further month to scan them and put them online.

You can read the submissions using the links below. They were sent to us by the Attorney General’s Department in the exact format that you see online. They have been scanned and OCR’d “as-is” into one large PDF document that can be easily searched using  Acrobat Reader  software. For those of you who might have trouble downloading large documents, the large PDF has also been split into 5 smaller sections.

I have also discovered that a submission lodged on 14th January via email from the One in Three Campaign was not provided under the FOI request. This raises some very serious questions indeed:

1. How many other submissions were sent in to this Inquiry but were not received, and therefore were unable to be considered by the government?

2. How many other submissions were indeed received by this inquiry but were not provided under the FOI request?

Either way, there appear to be serious administrative errors taking place in the Attorney General’s Department. If your organisation’s submission is also not included in the PDFs linked below, could you please let me know as a matter of urgency?

Why are Cows more important than Children?

Tags : , , ,

On 30th May 2011, the community, media and Government were outraged , when confronted by the cruelty inflicted on Australian cattle in Indonesia, and it brought immediate Government action. Within days a whole industry was closed down and a valuable export trade was stopped in its tracks.

Three days earlier on the 27th May 2011, the Government released the ABS Family Characteristics Survey 2009-10 , which indicates that since 1975 almost 24% of Australians have been denied meaningful contact with their biological families, as a result of deep-rooted Family Law policy failure. Yet now one month later, we have still not seen one word in the press and there is not a sign of any community, media or Government outrage.

Instead a deafening silence greets the news of crippling emotional cruelty being inflicted on Australian children and their powerless families. It would appear the health and wellbeing of the nations’ cows is much more important than the health and wellbeing of the nation’s children and families.

ABS Family Characteristics 2009-10, compared to 2006-07

Summary of Findin gs

There were a total 5.0 million children in Australia in 2009-10.
(4.8 million in 2006-07)

1.  NUMBER OF CHILDREN AGED 0 TO 17, WITH PARENTS LIVING ELSEWHERE.
Just over 1 million or 21% = 1,050 000 in (2009-10)
(Just over 1 million or 22% = 1,056 000 in 2006-07)

2.  NUMBER OF CHILDREN WHO SPENT HALF OR MORE NIGHTS WITH THEIR NON-CUSTODIAL PARENT = only 3%. (4% in 2006-07)

3. There were 441,000 non-custodial parents , the vast majority 81% were Fathers.
(82% in 2006-07)

Using the benchmark definition of “meaningful” contact to represent a child spending 20% or more nights per year with their non-custodial parent, it reveals the following disturbing result:

Of the children who had little or no “meaningful” contact, with their non-custodial parent.

45% of children never stayed overnight with their non-custodial parent.

(47% in 2006-07). This includes 24% who rarely or never saw that parent.

=  472.500
19% of children spent less than 10% of nights with that parent .

(19% in 2006-07).

=  199.500
15% of children spent more than 10% but less than 20% with that parent.

(14% in 2006-07).

157.500
Total number of children who had little or no meaningful contact with

their biological non-custodial parent.  (844.800 in 2006-07).

=  829.500

Dads on the Air - The world’s longest running radio program on fathers’ issuesThis is a slight variation of less than 1.5% over the previous period (2006-07), calling into serious question the effectiveness of Australia’s 36 year old Family Laws and demonstrates the failure of our Family Courts to protect the rights and safety of the nation’s children, and now accumulating into affecting  almost 24% of all Australians.

It indicates just 2 out of 10, or 20% of children from separated parents, continue to enjoy ongoing meaningful contact with their non-custodial parent, as per above definition of “meaningful.”

It also means 8 out of 10, or 80% of Australian children from separated parents, are being denied meaningful ongoing contact with their biological non-custodial parent.

As a consequence, there were 352,000 non custodial parents , who had little or no meaningful contact with their biological children living elsewhere. This in turn caused an estimated 1.5 million extended family members to also be denied meaningful contact with their biological families.

All of the above results reveal a crippling, social fallout, from deep-rooted Family Law policy failure, which raises some serious questions. If we consider the above outcome as actually being in ‘The Best Interest of Children’, then perhaps we need to urgently take a very close look at that definition.

Another woman walks free after killing her husband

Tags : , , , , , , , ,

murderous-wives-walks-free, Adelaide woman, walks free after murdering her husbandAN Adelaide woman who snapped and killed her cheating husband by setting him on fire has walked from court with only a suspended sentence.

Rajini Narayan, 46, was found guilty of the manslaughter of 47-year-old Satish Narayan after being tried for his murder.

In the Supreme Court of South Australia today, Justice John Sulan sentenced her to six years in jail with a non-parole period of four years for the death of her husband in December 2008.

He suspended her sentence saying there was good reason to do so and that her husband’s conduct was a mitigating factor.

Mrs Narayan had told her trial she snapped, threw petrol and a lit candle onto her husband’s back after learning via his emails that he was having an affair.

She had intended just to burn the tip of his penis with a candle and a beaker of petrol to save their marriage.

But she snapped and threw the beaker and candle on him after he turned his back on her.

Mrs Narayan had told her trial she snapped, threw petrol and a lit candle onto her husband’s back after learning via his emails that he was having an affair.

Fathers rights groups have condemned this judgment as yet another example of the double-standards in our laws, where women serve little if any jail time despite murdering their husbands or children in the most gruesome of circumstances.

Ash Patil, President of Fathers4Equality, says that women always tend to rely on stereotypes to get away with murder. “They always pull out the..he abused me argument, or I was depressed argument.”

Patil notes that these arguments are never accepted for men in this country, and they should never be accepted as defence for murder, regardless of whether the murderer is male or female.”

Patil slams this murder as a revenge murder, from a jealous wife who sought to hurt the man that was leaving her.

“We recently saw a man, Arthur Freeman, be put to jail effectively for life for murdering his daughter, Darcy Freeman, exacting revenge on his estranged wife. The question is however, why was this woman not treated the same?”
