The popularity of Julia Gillard’s government has fallen to the lowest level for any federal government in nearly 40 years, with a new Nielsen poll showing Labor’s approval rating at only 27 per cent.
It also found that 60 per cent of Australians would prefer former prime minister Kevin Rudd in the top job again.
The government’s carbon tax, its resource rent tax, its proposed family law amendments and its asylum seeker plans seem to be playing a big part in the bad polling that has been released around the 12-month anniversary of Mr Rudd’s ousting.
Many people are calling for a SNAP election as most of the policies of this government were never declared to the Australian people during the last election campaign.
- Tina Scierra from Mascot, NSW, claims she took Gillard at her word when she promised that there would not be a Carbon Tax if she won the election, and Tina now feels betrayed by a Prime Minister that has made an art of dishonesty.
- Frason Mills from Perth, WA, says he felt physically ill when the PM did not have the courage to meet the Dalai Lama when he visited Australia. Frason claims that any Prime Minister who cowers to countries like China over important Human Rights issues is simply not worth trusting.
- Elery See from Melbourne complains that as a recently separated father, he is virtually guaranteed never to see his children in any meaningful sense, with the Gillard government’s controversial Family Law changes, that remove any burden of proof in cases of false allegations. Mr See claims that for a government that claims to respect human rights of minorities like gays and refugees, it is proposing Nazi like laws that would presume that all fathers are guilty of domestic Violence.
- John Anderson from the Gold Coast is anoyed that Gillard’s solution over the Mining tax was simply to cave in to the big mining companies. John claims that this is not what he considers a solution, but it is a backflip that he has become accustomed to with this government.
What are your views on Julia Gillard and the current Labor Govt:
- I want a SNAP election - this government is a mess (82%, 373 Votes)
- I want Julia Gillard to be replaced as PM by Kevin Rudd (11%, 50 Votes)
- I support Julia Gillard and the policies of the Labor government (7%, 30 Votes)

Have your say on the Family Violence Bill on ABC radio tonight 10pm Tony Delroy’s Nightlife topic
“Is family law looking after children? Richard Spence from the Benevolent Society and child protection expert Professor Freda Briggs explore this sometimes contentious issue”
I have a nasty feeling Briggs & Spence both support the family violence Bill – protect children by removing their parents, yeah right. One might suggest this will put the majority of children at increased risk of child abuse.

“Not since the overthrow of the Weimar Republic have the leaders of a major democracy used their offices and the mass media to disseminate invective against millions of their own citizens. In fact it was Adolf Hitler who urged that “the state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people” and who explained that “as long as government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people happily will endure almost any curtailment of liberty.”
Using children to tug on our heartstrings can be a ploy by those cynical and unscrupulous enough to exploit children for their own purposes. The [Family Violence Bill, known as VAWA in the US - google it] – is likely to be remembered as one of the most diabolical perversions of governmental power in our history, a time when we allowed children to be used and abused by irresponsible government officials and paid for it with our families, our social order and our children’s rights” – Stephen Baskerville “Family Courts – What Every Man Should Know” 2002
The Honourable Robert McClelland on the AG site:
“The Family Violence Bill isn’t about the rights of men’s groups or women’s groups it’s about prioritising the safety of children and ensuring violence is reported and addressed, … During public consultation on the Bill, a total of 73 per cent of respondents expressed support for the measures [which he won't make public] … the overwhelming majority of the community supports the Bill.
I now call on Senators to listen to the community and pass these critical reforms”.

We are being hood winked by McClelland. Why can’t the survey results be scrutinised?
I predict that there will be another flood…of FALSE allegations in custody wars which are already running at 20% of child abuse notifications to Vic. police. Source; fmr Det. Sgt. SOCAUnit
We will probably also see a flood of disgruntled parents absconding with their children leading to more police hours hunting family members and facing sieges.
These ‘reforms’ are child abuse in themselves because they not taking the judgement (of evidence) away from children of an acrimonious family split, they are just promoting and enhancing ‘story telling.’ Is that good LIFE EDUCATION for our children? I don’t think so.

I admire Julia Gillard for how well the parliament is still functioning under very difficult circumstances. It is an uphill battle to get complicated legislation through with a hung parliament which many people seem to forget. Much legislation has been passed which enables our nation to run smoothly. A lot will change when the new senate comes in which Tony Abbott and the Liberals are dreading. Then the price on carbon will be done and dusted by the end of the year and by the time of the next election people will wonder what all the fuss was about, just like the GST.

The difference between the proposed carbon tax and the GST is that at least John Howard went to an election stating quite clearly that he WOULD be introducing a GST and people voted knowing that. While Juliar Gillard said only days before the last election that there would NEVER be a carbon tax under her gov’t and then reneged. We have to MAKE the politicians with a vision for Australia and the courage to inspire an see the result come to fruition. How many of you are lobbying the Liberals to make this a point of difference – nothing than can be construed as misogynist.
Waiting for someone ELSE to do it? You will get results commensurate with the effort you make. No effort=no result, so don’t whine if you fail. No loony letters! We are the reasonable majority. There’s no need to use ‘language’, prejudice, slurs etc. We don’t need to, we have the FACTS.
Time to refresh the facts (in the liberal politician’s minds) about how wise libs were to implement shared custody as a BASE and that PROOF should always be required when making accusations, no matter what the charge. NO exceptions.
This is for the children who as we know, do better with two good parents (the overwhelming majority, not the few examples repeatedly trotted out by the greens and left-wing labour cronies). It is not a femmo-bashing exercise, keep THAT for the pub.

Gillard and her cohorts are completely out of their depth. In my 54 years of following politics I have never seen such ineptitude and unprofessionalism as that of PM Gillard. I though Rudd was bad but Gillard is far worse. The current government lacks depth and breadth. To run this once great nation we need successful business and professional people from diverse backgrounds, instead of trade unionists, lawyers and staffers to politicians. A rudimentary knowledge of economics and government should be mandatory for all elected politicians including prime ministers.

We can’t have a snap election. One of the great freedoms about Australia is that we gat to choose who will be our leader…… to a degree.
Unfortunately that also means that we have to wait untilt he next election before we can change our mind.
We’re stuck with her and the union cronies of the Labor Party until then, lets just hope Australia makes the right choice next time.
[Reply]
I am not surprised this is happening since Julia Gillard made herself PM
In the Bible Isaiah prophesied of events that are clearly happening in these modern times even here in Australia!
In Isaiah 3:12 it is written – “[As for] my people, children [are] their oppressors, and WOMEN RULE OVER THEM. O my people, they which lead thee cause [thee] to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”
This means that the leaders will lack moral integrity and act like children in misleading those who come under their rule, and the corrupting influence of their prominent women will also felt. They will also exploit the helpless poor.
Now ain’t that the truth!!!!!!
I wish to mention that the divorce rate cannot go down until men and women choose to walk in the paths that God has ordained.
[Reply]
It is worthy to mention that Malcolm Turnbull dedicated his maiden parliamentary speech to his views and support of shared parenting.

Hindsight has nothing to do with it. One of the few things Gillard was honest about was that she WOULD be introducing these reforms to family law and she made it very plain through our dishonourable AT tghat she would be. She certainly lied about the introduction of the carbon tax as late as 9 days before the election.
To my mind there is nothing insignificant about the fact that the male-female suicide rate is 5-1 or that thousands of children are forced to live with an abusive mother as my own child was. It’s about time we made it significant. What is more valuable than our children. ???.

I have no issue with having a female Prime Minister, in fact, I feel if she is good at the job then I am all for it.
The problem is, Gillard is one of the worst politicians I have ever seen. I cannot stand watching or even listening to her. So many voted for her simply because she is female, this is the wrong reason to vote anyone in.
What hypocrites!
Imagine, voting for someone simply cause she is female. I bet you that most would also deny that this is why they voted for her. I would never vote for anyone simply because they are a man. I am better than that.
Unfortunately, those who voted for Gillard have made it very difficult for the next potential female Prime Minister. How long is it going to take for Australians to forget what a disaster the first ever Female Prime Minister was. Hope you are happy Gillard, the first Female Prime Minister, the Worst ever Prime Minister and I am confident that you will also go down in history as the worst Female Prime Minister ever.

In the event of a SNAP election, these are my predictions:
(1) Rob Oakshot will be in the unemployment qeue
(2) Tony Windsor will have a massive swing against him, but will just hold on with Labor prefences
(3) The Greens will start to lose popularity, pulling in less than 10% Australia wide support.
(4) The Greens will lose their lower house seat, although only just.
(5) The Senate balance of power will be held by Nick Xenophon
(6) Julia Gillard will lose the next election, but stay on as a back-bencher
(7) Kevin Rudd will quit politics
(8) Tony Abbott will become the new Australian Prime Minister
(9) The carbon tax will be ditched, with growing evidence that it would not have made a difference in managing climate change.
(10) The Family Law amendments, passed in the dying days of the Gillard government, will be repealed with Xenophon’s support, and new proposals will be reviewed.
(11) Turnbull will not be offered a front bench seat in the new Abbott Coalition government.
(12) Malcolm Turnbull will agitate for the top job, starting a 2 term conflict between Abbott and Turnbull.
(13) Polls will be strong for Abbott for 2 terms, after which his popularity will plummit.
(14) Malcolm Turnbull will become Prime Minister in 2018.
(15) New Shared Parenting laws encompassing a true presumption of shared care, and enforcing a gender neutral commitment by the Family Court, will be passed by Parliament.
(16) After the Family Court’s failure to eradicate gender discrimination from its decisions, and criticisms against the legal industry for fermenting conflict between separating couples, the Family Court will be dismantled, in its place being a Family Law Tribunal, very similar to that proposed in 2005 by the Kay Hull bi-partisan committee into family law reform.

“(10) The Family Law amendments, passed in the dying days of the Gillard government, will be repealed…”
That’s enough for me. How do we get a SNAP election? Clearly the ALP/Greens/Independents won’t call a doomed election.
Why wasn’t the Minister for Women censured for misleading Parliament – essentially a no-confidence vote in the government. Oakschott censured the House speaker in the same session
2. Surprised if Windsor survived. New England is a traditional National seat. He voted against constituency opinion for a Whitlamesque debacle.
3. The Greens should be recognised as the socialist One Nation party that they are and treated electorally as such. Time for wilderness Bob to go backtracking.
I thought the Senate will only be changed by a double dissolution.
In my view we still need to focus on raising public awareness that the family violence bill is a trojan horse with the WMD of family inside. The Senate, albeit controlled by the Greens, must be persuaded into self-preservation by returning the Bill to the House with sensible recommendations that fear must be reasonable, that it is appropriate that penalties for false allegation, that the statutory protections against contrived conflict and parental alienation, known as the”friendly parent” provisions, retained. And
all reference to AVO’s must be deleted from the Act. Geez, the state Magistrates courts & DHS will be bankrupted with us.
I would like a note inserted into the explanatory memoranda and/or specifically into s65DAA of the Act that if the presumption of shared parental responsibility is satisfied then MAXIMUM practicable parenting time with both parents is in the best interests of the child.
This is what the Act already says. Chisholm & the judiciary argues this section is too complicated leading to public misperception,… there should be no presumption of parenting time, it should determined on a case by case basis, while ironically arguing the exact opposite that protecting the child from family violence to have priority over the other primary consideration of protecting the child’s meaningful relationships.
If there were to be any amendment it should be that this simple clarification of the existent law – that the presumption of shared parental responsibility is two tiered, satisfying the first triggers maximum practicable parenting time.
It is not that difficult. We don’t need more doctorate/professor reviews or court restructuring – our kids will be parents by that time. Although I would not mind a court like VACAT which costs $10 to file and both parties present their own case to the tribunal. Quick & easy & honest with any appeals to the family court.

Great suggestions above…Case by case is STILL the only way to deal with family violence (allegations) and yes a Family Law Tribunal is the future. It’s fair if it can be seen as gender neutral and would be relatively simple to set up. It will not come from this Government and so I might be voting Liberal for the first time in 30 years…on this issue alone.
Speaking as a builder, former footballer and proud father, a Family Law tribunal system would restore balance and confidence in custody battles and quickly expose any bad behaviour ie.false allegations, parental alienation.
To give an example; With no history of family violence in my marraige it was suggested by my ex-wife in our custody war that because of my physical strength kept from sport and my occupation, that I was a POTENTIAL threat to her and my daughters… $70,000 later, I gained shared custody. Stop the rot.

What this government has done to Family Law is unforgivable.
To condemn a man because of an allegation from his estranged wife, and remove the need to prove the allegation, is facism at its worst.
Not only does this kill of shared parenting, but no fathers will be allowed to see their kids unless the mother approves, and this will involve financial blackmail for sure.

Heinsite is a great thing Dave…People have forgotten that K. Rudd allowed Mark Latham to lead the ALP, unchallenged, down a deeper hole because, “the time wasn’t right to mount a challenge” (on the biggest dickhead that parliament has seen in decades- apart from Wilson Tuckey)
Labour got in last time on their recognition of climate change..they are now floundering to pass their reforms and so our children will probably inherit a worsening scenario..Family Law ‘reforms’, for better or worse, will possibly pale into insignificance.
This government is the champion for one set of laws for men, and a different set of laws for women.
No wonder it is the most hated government in 40 years.

Leaving disparaging ‘sexual leanings’ insults out for a moment, this government is extremely arrogant, especially considering it scraped past the post with the support of independents who usually lean to the RIGHT. Those independents will face a backlash at the next election and one or two will lose their seats.
To suggest this government, so called, has a mandate for for all sorts of issues that were hidden at the last election is the height of dishonesty. It also displays the contempt that Ms. Gillard in particular (and her hard-core feminist buddies in the “greens”) really have for the Australian people, its laws and families who need the legal system to work out their differences. I was a “legally” abused dad and am over it, but I see the inequities in “family” law and they’re about to get worse. This “government” is indeed hell-bent in using children to batter fathers as one poster has said.
To remove the burden of PROOF for accusations is plainly suggesting it is acceptable to lie in court. This is indefensible in a supposed democracy ruled by law. It WILL pollute justice and it is tantamount to making perjury legal by ignoring it, depending on who is doing the lying. This displays extreme prejudice against fathers and uses the courts as a blunt instrument against dads for being male and in a divorce situation.
I think it is becoming fairly clear that the people demand a new election and a government that can handle law, finances and the people in general. Resurrecting Kevin 07 will not do the trick, frankly as he’s tainted given his ‘revealing’ destabilisation antics.
It is not a crime to be a dad, and we should not be treated as criminals. Remember this government claims to be anti-discrimination. That is not provine to be the case and their ‘social justice’ mantra is shown to be a ruse.
